There’s no doubt that kitchens are one of the hardest working rooms in any home - a space where we entertain, share family time, work, cook and generally live day to day.
There’s no doubt that kitchens are one of the hardest working rooms in any home - a space where we entertain, share family time, work, cook and generally live day to day.
The kitchen is an important room to get right first time when you’re renovating, as mistakes can be tricky to fix and extremely costly.
Ensuring your new kitchen is an inviting space that not only performs on a practical level but will also endure for many years, whilst still being a joyous part of your home, can be a challenge.
And don’t forget that, even though a new kitchen is a sizeable investment, it is one that if done well will add thousands of pounds to the value of your home and make your home a lot more appealing to potential buyers in the future.
Dreaming about a new kitchen?
Ok, so you’re ready for a new kitchen. The old one is past its sell by date and you can see the potential that a new design, better layout, extra space and storage would bring to your home…
But where and how to start?
A new kitchen consists of so many individual elements - style of cabinetry, layout and amount of cabinetry and amount of storage needed, colour palette, materials and colour of work surfaces, task appropriate lighting, tiles/other splash backs, sinks, taps, handles, flooring, appliances, not to mention the decor of the room surrounding the kitchen, which may include seating and dining areas, a play room space, etc. The list is almost endless!
Fact - there is so much choice out there for each and every element, and available at our ever-scrolling fingertips, that you can easily end up feeling totally overwhelmed and, as a result, make rushed and/or poor choices you may well regret.
Over the years, I’ve come to recognise a certain look in clients' eyes, which I call… ‘The Kitchen Fever’
Loosely described as a feeling of panic and overwhelm when faced with too many choices and decisions. And don’t forget the added pressure that comes when choosing high ticket items!
This is the moment when people either shelve their plans, as it’s just all too much to contemplate and they don’t have the time or energy to devote to the project, or they scale down their plans and play it safe for the sake of getting something, rather than nothing, done. This almost always results in disappointment and regret, as they realise they have invested a large amount of money but are living with a kitchen that might not be practical and brings them no joy to be in.
Here’s the good news - I can help with all your kitchen dilemmas!
